1. Overview of First Trimester Test Panel (Advanced + NIPT)

The first 3 months of pregnancy (1st trimester) are challenging for pregnant women. They have to face physical and mental changes and health risks such as changes in sugar levels or anemia.

First Trimester Test Panel (Advanced + NIPT) provides 4 essential tests for the 1st trimester, plus additional in-depth tests to help expectant mothers monitor and understand their health. This panel enables the early detection of abnormalities in the mother and screens for the risk of defects in the baby.

2. Which Tests Will You Take in the 1st Trimester Panel (Advanced + NIPT)?

The test package deploys 8 tests necessary in the first trimester, including:

– Complete blood count (CBC): This is the core test that the mother needs to undergo. Based on a blood sample, the doctor checks for anemia and determines if Rh+ or Rh- to detect any incompatibility in the mother-infant agreement and perform an overall health assessment.

– NIPT test: This non-invasive test analyzes small pieces of DNA (coming from maternal and placental cells) and helps to detect certain genetic abnormalities early but without harming the unborn baby.

The NIPT test guarantees an accuracy of up to 80-85% with just one run in the 1st trimester and no requirement for retesting in subsequent trimesters.

– Urinalysis: Test results from urine biochemistry will help doctors detect kidney diseases or urinary tract infections (causing burning sensations or blood in urine) and provide timely and effective treatment.

Fasting glucose: During pregnancy, you must produce 3 times more insulin than usual to stabilize blood sugar (glucose) levels. If the insulin is insufficient, the sugar levels will cause clogging, leading to diabetes.

The mother needs to perform a gestational diabetes test to protect her health and ensure the baby is born without hypoglycemia due to the risk of coma or brain damage.

Ferritin test | Serum iron: Helps check for anemia and iron deficiency in the mother – often the cause of weakness, paleness, or fatigue. Especially common when insufficient oxygen is supplied to the mother and her baby.

– Folic acid test | vitamin B12: Lack of folic acid and vitamin B12 leads to neural tube defects in fetuses and children with cleft palate or spina bifida. Tests are performed to help diagnose and treat the disease at an early stage.
