The first 3 months of pregnancy (1st trimester) are challenging for women. They have to face physical and mental changes and health risks such as anemia, changes in sugar levels, and morning sickness.
The 1st Trimester Panel (basic) provides 4 essential tests, helping to detect and monitor any abnormalities in the mother and screen for the risks of defects in the baby.
2.Which Tests Are Performed in the 1st Trimester Panel (Basic)?
The test panel deploys 4 tests necessary in the first trimester, including:
– Complete blood count (CBC) test: This is the core blood test that the mother needs to undergo. It will help the doctor check for anemia and determine if Rh+ or Rh-, to detect any incompatibility in the mother-infant agreement, and provide an overall health assessment.
– Double test: Quantitatively checks the substances in the mother’s blood secreted by the placenta, detecting defects in the fetus early, specifically related to chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, and Patau syndrome.
– Urinalysis: Based on blood test results, doctors can detect kidney diseases and urinary tract infections (causing burning urine, blood in urine), allowing for time for treatment.
– Fasting blood sugar: During pregnancy, you must produce 3 times more insulin than usual to stabilize blood sugar (glucose) levels. If there is not enough insulin, it leads to diabetes. Mothers need to undertake tests to ensure that the baby does not have hypoglycemia due to changes in the living environment, which leads to the baby’s coma or brain damage
