Lumbar spine X-ray L5-S1 straight and oblique helps to evaluate in detail the lumbar spine at L5-S1, where problems such as disc herniation or spondylosis often occur.
Indications:
Lower back pain: pain of unknown cause.
Disc herniation: determine location and extent.
Spinal degeneration: assess the extent of degeneration at the L5-S1 joint.
Vertebral fracture: check the extent and location of the fracture.
Spondylolisthesis: assess abnormalities in the vertebrae.
Contraindications:
Pregnant women: especially in the first trimester.
Children: limit unless necessary.
People who cannot maintain posture: due to pain or limited mobility.
Scanning procedure:
1. Preparation before scanning: the patient removes jewelry and metal objects from the body.
2. Proceed with X-ray:
- Straight position: the patient stands or lies on his back on the X-ray table, the central beam is aimed at the L5-S1 vertebrae.
- Tilted position: the patient lies on his side on the X-ray table, knees slightly bent, keeping the position so that the X-ray beam is directed horizontally at the L5-S1 vertebrae.
3. Evaluation of results: the X-ray image must be clear, not obscured by surrounding structures, clearly showing the L5-S1 vertebrae and adjacent joint spaces.
Benefits:
Detailed assessment: helps to accurately detect lesions or abnormalities in the L5-S1 area.
Diagnostic support: provides detailed images to help doctors make appropriate treatment decisions.
