Toxoplasma gondii IgM

. Toxoplasmosis, a disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, a common infection that is typically mild in healthy individuals but can lead to severe complications in immunocompromised individuals and during pregnancy.
. It is transmitted through ingestion of undercooked or contaminated meat, exposure to contaminated soil, water, or cat feces, from mother to baby during pregnancy (Congenital Toxoplasmosis), or via organ transplants and blood transfusions.
. Symptoms of toxoplasmosis may include mild flu-like symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes. In severe cases, it can lead to complications like vision problems, brain inflammation (encephalitis), or miscarriage in pregnant women.
. Toxoplasma IgM antibodies indicate recent infection (primary, reactivation, or reinfection), while Toxoplasma IgG antibodies indicate past or recent infection.
. Testing for both IgM and IgG is particularly important for assessing risk in pregnant women and immunocompromised patients.
. A substantial rise in Toxoplasma IgG concentrations in sequential
samples accompanied by the presence of Toxoplasma IgM could indicate serological evidence of active infection.
