PathTezt

PathTezt is an advanced cervical cytology test that aids in the early detection of abnormalities, precancerous lesions, or early-stage cervical cancer before symptoms appear. Gynecologists use specialized instruments and reagents to collect cervical cells from the patient and send to the laboratory. In the laboratory, pathologists analyze these cells under a light microscope to determine the presence or absence of: (1) Infectious agents (such as Candida spp., Actinomyces, HSV, HPV, etc.); (2) Precancerous cells; (3) Cancerous cells. Pap smear is a modern and painless test that contributes to improve treatment success rates and reduces the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer in women.
Compared to traditional Pap smears, PathTezt offers several advantages:
- Fully automated sample processing.
- 100% cell collection and preservation in a liquid-based medium, maintaining the original cell morphology and preventing cell damage or dehydration.
- Blood and mucus lysis, enabling clear cell visualization, easier reading, and high representation.
- Capability to perform additional tests, such as STD or HPV testing, without requiring extra samples.

Procedure for performing the PathTezt :
Guide the patient into the lithotomy position. Use a speculum without lubricant to expose the cervix (saline solution or warm water may be used as a lubricant substitute).
Insert a cytobrush into the cervix ensuring the longer bristles are within the endocervical canal and the shorter bristles rest on the ectocervix. Rotate the brush 2-3 times around the surface of the cervix in both directions. Remove the brush and immerse it into the container with the cell fixation solution. Tap the brush against the bottom of the container 10 times, pressing firmly to ensure the bristles separate. Finally, twist the brush forcefully to release additional cells. Remove the brush and securely cap the container. Label the container with the patient's name and send it to the laboratory for testing.
Avoid sexual intercourse 48 hours before the test.
Do not douche 48 hours before the test.
Do not use tampons, or vaginal creams, foams, films, or jellies (such as spermicides or medications inserted into the vagina) for 48 hours before the test.
