Microscopic Examination + Culture + Sensitivity [Blood]

Blood culture is a test to check for the presence of bacteria or fungi in the blood. This is considered the gold standard for diagnosing sepsis.

  • Microbiology

Patient Instructions:
. Collect the blood as soon as possible after the onset of chills or fever, ideally within 30–60 minutes. This is because the ability to recover microorganisms decreases as time passes following a high fever.
. If the patient is receiving a blood or fluid transfusion, stopping the transfusion before taking the blood culture sample is essential.
Blood should be collected from the opposite arm or a different site.
