Direct Bilirubin level test checks out how much direct bilirubin is in the blood. Direct bilirubin is this stuff the liver has already processed, making it ready to leave the body. Normally, the liver grabs the bilirubin that comes from breaking down old red blood cells, makes it water-soluble, and then it’s pretty much set to go. This test helps catch if there’s a hold-up with the liver or bile ducts, pointing out if there’s liver damage or a bile duct blockage. Albumin helps keep blood from leaking out of blood vessels and moves other important substances throughout the body, while globulins help fight infection and move nutrients throughout the body. The A/G ratio compares the amount of albumin in your blood to the amount of globulin. This test helps diagnose kidney disease, liver disease, or nutritional problems.
