Detect 13+ sexually transmitted disease pathogens
Many sexually transmitted infections may not cause any symptoms during the early stages. However, some early signs to watch for include:
- Acute HIV symptoms (appear 2 – 4 weeks after infection): fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat, mouth ulcers, fatigue, and body aches.
- Genital warts in men and women: Small pink bumps measuring approximately 1 – 3mm, typically without pain or itching, appearing around the genital or anal area
- Signs of gonorrhea: Painful or frequent urination, pus-like discharge from the urethra, or unusual vaginal discharge
- Signs of syphilis: Painless sores (chancres) that may appear on the genitals, mouth, or anus. These sores often heal on their own within 3–6 weeks, but this does not mean the infection has resolved. The bacteria can remain in the body and progress to later stages.
Because these symptoms can be mistaken for common illnesses or may not appear at all, testing is the most reliable way to detect an infection. HIV and syphilis are typically tested using blood samples, while gonorrhea and chlamydia can be tested using urine samples or swabs from the site of exposure, including the throat and rectum if oral or anal sex has occurred.
