FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

STDs and STIs refer to sexually transmitted infections; however, they have the following differences:

– STDs (abbreviation “Sexually Transmitted Diseases”) refer to diseases that are sexually transmitted. The subject typically becomes infected with viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites after having sex, and the infection develops into a disease.

– STIs (abbreviation “Sexually Transmitted Infections”) refer to infections that are sexually transmitted. The subject has been infected with viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites after having sex, but the infection has not yet developed into a disease.

– If the causative agent is bacteria, parasites, or fungi, appropriate antibiotics, and antifungal treatment will completely cure the disease.

– If the causative agent is a virus (HSV – Herpes Simplex Virus 1 or 2), there is currently no complete cure. However, it is still possible to control and prevent acute outbreaks of the disease or transmission to sexual partners.

– In men, STDs can cause infertility, body aches, fever, nausea, vomiting, or other flu-like symptoms, burning sensations while urinating, abnormal genital discharges, and pelvic inflammatory disease.

– In women, STDs can lead to complications such as cervical cancer, pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. Without timely treatment, dangerous complications, including infertility, cervical cancer, and congenital infections in newborns, can form due to infection from the mother.

– According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is advisable to have regular sexual health checks every 3 to 12 months.

– If you have unprotected sex with a new partner or can’t determine your partner’s health status, you should get tested every 3 to 6 months.

– As soon as there is a positive result for only one or more infections, it is necessary to see a specialist. Do not attempt to self-medicate or treat the illness at home.

– Depending on your needs, Diag will refer you to an appropriate doctor in our network who will provide advice and a treatment plan.
